Recently when I was in Medan for a short 'wisata', I came across two wonderful songs by Indonesian composer Ibu Soed. One is the melodious " Tanah Airku" and a children song, "Tik Tik Bunyi Hujan".
Tanah airku, tidak kulupakan
‘kan terkenang selama hidupku
Biarpun saya pergi jauh
Tidak kan hilang dari kalbu
Tanah ku yang kucintai,….engkau kuhargai
Walaupun banyak negri kujalani,
Yang mashyur permai dikata orang
Tetapi kampung dan rumahku,
Disanalah ku rasa senang
Tanah, ku tak kulupakan….
Engkau kubanggakan
When I first listened to "Tanah Airku", my heart beat faster and quickly my eyes became wet. You can listen to it in Garuda ads above.
Interesting enough, we are not short of old patriotic songs. We certainly have our own "Tanah Ayerku". It was composed by Alfonso Soliano and lyrics by Mahadzir Yassin.I got the lyrics from a book I bought at Chowrasta Market not so long ago.
Cantik berseri-seri,
Negaraku yang sangat ku cintai,
Menjelma di antara bangsa
Dan Berdaulat Malaysia merdeka
Bulan serta pun bintang
Menyinari di langit Malaysiaku
Hasratku hendak ku korbankan
Apa saja untuk kemajuan
Sungguh hati ku gembira
Melihat segalanya bangsa
berpakat dengan bekerja
Dibawah satu bendera
Mari kita berdoa
Supaya jaya makmur dan bahagia
Junjunglah tanah mu yang kaya
Hidup aman kekal dan abadi.
Will it makes my eyes wet? I don't know. How I wish I could listen to it. Perhaps in MAS ads one day?
