Bidal Melayu II

Pelabor habis Palembang tak alah.

Palembang* unbeaten and rations run low.-
When means are exhausted with little to show.

* In reference to an unsuccessful siege by the Dutch.

Hujan mas perak di negeri orang,hujan kerus lembing
di negeri sendiri, baik juga di negeri sendiri.

Tho' gold may pour from foreign skies,
Whilst spears and daggers rain at home;
Yet better off is he who lies
On his own soil,than far to roam.

Malay Proverbs (Bidal Melayu)
